Travel Guide to Desert View Conservation Area

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving within Joshua Tree National Park, head towards the intersection of Park Boulevard and Highway 62. From there, take Park Boulevard south. Continue on Park Boulevard until you reach the junction with Desert View Drive. Turn left onto Desert View Drive, and follow the road for approximately 2 miles. The Desert View Conservation Area will be on your right. Look for the entrance sign, and ensure you have a valid park pass, which can be purchased at the entrance if you don't already have one. The entrance fee is typically $30 per vehicle, valid for 7 days.

• Public Transportation

  Using public transportation can be a bit more complex, as there are limited options in the area. You can take a bus from nearby cities like Palm Springs to Joshua Tree. Once in Joshua Tree, local shuttles may be available, but they might not directly serve the Desert View Conservation Area. It is recommended to check local shuttle services or consider rideshare options. If relying on public transport, it may be best to coordinate your visit with others who have a vehicle, or plan for a taxi or rideshare service from the nearest bus stop to the conservation area.

• Biking

  If you are feeling adventurous and are already in the park, you might also consider biking to the Desert View Conservation Area. Ensure you have a good map of the park and are prepared for the desert conditions. From Park Boulevard, head south to Desert View Drive and then ride east. The ride can be strenuous due to the terrain, so make sure you bring enough water and take necessary safety precautions.

• Hiking

  If you are already nearby, another option is to hike to the Desert View Conservation Area. While there are no marked trails leading directly to the area, you can navigate through the surrounding desert landscape. Ensure you have a GPS device or a detailed map, as it can be easy to get lost in the vast desert. Bring ample water and sun protection, as the conditions can be quite harsh.
