Anthony C. Beilenson Interagency Visitor Center: Gateway to the Santa Monica Mountains

Discover the Santa Monica Mountains! Start your adventure at this Calabasas visitor center with exhibits, maps, and expert advice.

The Anthony C. Beilenson Interagency Visitor Center is the perfect starting point for discovering the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Situated within the King Gillette Ranch, the visitor center is housed in what were once the ranch's stables, originally built in 1928. The building was renovated into a visitor center and is the first 'net zero' visitor center in the National Park Service, with LEED Platinum certification. The visitor center provides comprehensive information about the Santa Monica Mountains, including its unique ecosystems, hiking trails, and historical sites. Interactive exhibits showcase the local flora and fauna, while knowledgeable staff and volunteers offer guidance and recommendations for exploring the park. Visitors can also find a bookstore with maps, guidebooks, and souvenirs. The center also features a small theater that shows a park film. King Gillette Ranch, where the visitor center is located, is a historic site in itself. Designed by renowned California architect Wallace Neff, the ranch offers a glimpse into the Golden Age of California. Visitors can explore the grounds, enjoy picnic areas, and access hiking trails, including the Inspiration Point Trail, which offers panoramic views.
