Red Car Trolley: A Ride Through Time on Buena Vista Street

The Red Car Trolley was a delightful nod to the bygone era of Los Angeles' Pacific Electric Railway, offering guests a ride through the heart of Disney California Adventure. Operating from June 15, 2012, to February 8, 2025, the trolley cars transported visitors between Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Land, evoking the spirit of 1920s and 30s Southern California. The Red Car Trolley paid homage to the 'Red Cars' that once traversed the region, with two distinct trolley cars, each with its own unique design. Car 623 was inspired by the 600-series trolleys built in 1922, reflecting the year Walt Disney arrived in California. Car 717 drew inspiration from the Art Deco vehicles of the 700-750 series, its number a tribute to Disneyland's opening date. Though the overhead wires appeared functional, the trolleys were actually battery-operated, ensuring a smooth and eco-friendly ride. The Red Car Trolley made several stops along its route, including Buena Vista Street, Carthay Circle, Hollywood Boulevard, and Sunset Boulevard. Knowledgeable conductors shared historical tidbits and stories, enhancing the immersive experience. The trolley's closure in early 2025 was due to the expansion of Avengers Campus, marking the end of an era for this beloved attraction.
