Discover more about The Last Bookstore

Located in the Historic Core of Downtown Los Angeles, The Last Bookstore is California's largest used and new book store, offering a unique literary experience. Established in 2005 by Josh Spencer, what began as an online book-selling business has evolved into a 22,000-square-foot, two-story bookshop. The name, chosen with irony, reflects the dwindling number of physical bookstores in the age of e-books. The Last Bookstore is housed in a former Citizens National Bank building designed in 1914 by John Parkinson, who also designed Los Angeles City Hall and Union Station. The building's architecture, featuring soaring 25-foot ceilings supported by massive pillars and mosaic-tiled floors, adds to the store's unique atmosphere. The ground floor features a diverse collection of over 250,000 new and used books, as well as vinyl records and graphic novels. The mezzanine level, known as the Labyrinth Above the Last Bookstore, houses art galleries, a yarn shop, and a back room with 100,000 books priced at just $1 each. The labyrinthine layout includes book tunnels and portholes, creating Instagram-worthy photo opportunities. The store has also been featured in movies like "Gone Girl" and TV series. The Last Bookstore continues to buy, sell, and trade books, offering something for everyone. It has become a landmark in Los Angeles, drawing tourists and locals alike.
