Getting There

  • Driving

    From downtown Pleasanton, head southwest on Main Street, then turn right onto Bernal Avenue. Continue onto Foothill Road and turn right onto Golden Eagle Way. Proceed through the Golden Eagle Farms residential development gate; Pleasanton residents must show proof of residency. Non-residents may need to purchase a weekly pass. Follow Golden Eagle Way to the park's parking lot. Parking is free.

    From the north side of the park, pedestrian access is available via the Longview Drive cul-de-sac. From Foothill Road, turn onto Longview Drive and park on the lower south side of the road. Walk up the steep Longview Drive to the cul-de-sac, then turn left onto the paved driveway marked '9104'. Continue to the park gate. Parking is free but limited.

The park is named after Augustin Bernal, a Spanish settler who held the original land grant for the property. In 1971, Walter S. Johnson, a philanthropist, donated the land to the City of Pleasanton with the condition that it be maintained for public park and recreational purposes. The park's trails wind through diverse landscapes, including mixed oak woodlands, dense chaparral vegetation, and savannahs with annual grasses and oak groves. Visitors can observe native plant species like California Fescue and wildflowers such as Baby Blue Eyes. The park also provides habitat for various wildlife, including deer. From the high points along the ridgetop, visitors can enjoy views of Sunol, Mission Peak, and the Ohlone Wilderness. Valley View Trail offers framed views of the Livermore-Amador Valley with Mount Diablo in the background.
