Discover more about Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park

Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park offers a serene escape into a world of towering redwoods, just a few miles east of Oakland. Once the site of extensive logging operations in the mid-1800s to supply building materials for the burgeoning San Francisco Bay Area, the park has made an impressive recovery. Today, visitors can wander through a peaceful forest of 150-foot coast redwoods, a mix of evergreens, chaparral, and grasslands. The park's history is intertwined with the efforts to preserve these natural spaces. After the initial logging boom and additional cutting after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, conservation efforts took hold. In 2019, the park was renamed to honor Dr. Aurelia Henry Reinhardt, president of Mills College and a key figure in the East Bay Regional Park District's early days. With nearly 40 miles of trails, the park provides ample opportunities for hiking, jogging, and horseback riding. The Stream Trail is a popular, easy option, while more challenging routes climb to the ridgelines for panoramic views. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including deer, raccoons, and various bird species. The park also features picnic areas, a children's play structure, and even a fish ladder aiding the migration of native trout in Redwood Creek. Whether you're seeking a quiet stroll among the redwoods or a more adventurous hike, Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park offers a refreshing natural escape close to the city.
