Getting There

Walking

If you're already in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, the Adobe Chapel is easily accessible on foot. Head south on San Diego Avenue, then turn left onto Conde Street. The chapel is located at 3963 Conde Street. Walking within Old Town is free.
Public Transport

From downtown San Diego, you can take the San Diego Trolley to the Old Town Transit Center. From the transit center, walk north along Taylor Street, turn left onto Juan Street, and then right onto Conde Street. The chapel will be on your right. A one-way trolley fare is approximately $2.50, and the walk is about 10-15 minutes.
Parking

If driving, free parking is available in public lots on Juan Street between Harney and Twiggs Streets. From these lots, walk east on Juan Street, then turn right onto Conde Street. Limited 2-hour unmetered parking spaces may also be available on the streets of Old Town. Be aware that parking can be limited, especially on weekends.

The Adobe Chapel, also known as the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, is a significant historical site located in Old Town San Diego. Originally constructed in 1850 as a residence for John Brown, San Diego's first coroner, it was converted into a Catholic chapel in 1858 by Don José Aguirre. The chapel served as a central point of activity in early San Diego.In 1937, the chapel was rebuilt by the WPA after being destroyed during street realignment in the 1930s. The rebuilt structure incorporates many original artifacts, including the tabernacle, the marbleized altar, woodwork, pews, doors, and José Aguirre's tombstone laid in the floor. The chapel is also rumored to be the setting for the fictional wedding in Helen Hunt Jackson's novel, Ramona.Today, the Adobe Chapel is a museum operated by Save Our Heritage Organisation (SOHO). It showcases artwork from the Mission and Presidio churches. While the chapel has been undergoing long-term maintenance by the City of San Diego and is currently closed to the public, it remains a cherished landmark, representing San Diego's rich cultural and spiritual history.
