Discover more about Wunderlich County Park

Wunderlich County Park, nestled in the hills above Woodside, California, offers a diverse landscape and a rich history. The park's 942 acres encompass redwood forests, open meadows, and stands of oak and madrone trees. Originally part of the Rancho Canada de Raymundo, the land was later developed into a working ranch by Simon Jones in 1872. Jones planted vineyards and fruit trees, and remnants of his rock retaining walls can still be seen near the Folger Stable. In 1902, the Folger family, of Folger's Coffee fame, acquired the property and transformed it into a recreational estate. They constructed the impressive Folger Stable, designed by Arthur Brown Jr., who also designed iconic San Francisco landmarks like City Hall and Coit Tower. The stable, now a museum, showcases local history and the Folger family's legacy. Martin Wunderlich, a contractor, purchased the property in 1956 and, in 1974, generously donated it to San Mateo County for use as a public park. Today, Wunderlich Park offers over 15 miles of trails for hiking, running, and horseback riding. Popular trails include the Bear Gulch Trail, which winds through dense redwood forests, and the Alambique Trail, which offers views of the surrounding countryside. The park's varied terrain and well-maintained trails make it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Wunderlich Park provides a peaceful escape into nature, with opportunities to explore local history and enjoy the beauty of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
