Driving
From San Francisco, cross the Golden Gate Bridge and take Highway 101 North. Exit onto Highway 1/Stinson Beach near Mill Valley. Follow Highway 1 (Shoreline Highway) for about 5.5 miles and turn left onto Pacific Way. The Muir Beach parking area is half a mile down Pacific Way. Parking is free, but the lot fills up quickly on weekends. Expect a 30-40 minute drive from San Francisco in light traffic. Be aware that the road is narrow and winding as you approach the coast.
Public Transport
While public transport options are limited, Marin Transit's West Marin Stagecoach (Route 66) does stop in the Muir Beach area, but service is infrequent. You can connect from Marin City, which is served by Golden Gate Transit buses from San Francisco. From Marin City, transfer to Marin Transit Route 61 towards Muir Beach. Check the schedules carefully, as service may be limited, especially on weekends. A one-way fare on Golden Gate Transit is around $5-$8. The Marin Transit fare is approximately $2-$3.
Taxi/Ride-share
Taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft are available from nearby towns such as Sausalito or Mill Valley. A taxi from Sausalito to Muir Beach typically costs $35-$45 and takes about 14 minutes. From Mill Valley, a taxi will cost $27-$32 and take around 11 minutes. Be aware that cell service can be unreliable in the Muir Beach area, making it difficult to book a ride back.
