    From San Mateo, head to the Caltrain station located at 2nd Ave and B St. Take the Caltrain north towards San Francisco and disembark at the 4th and King Street station. From there, transfer to the Muni Metro line T (the T line will take you to the Embarcadero station). Once you reach the Embarcadero station, transfer to the F line streetcar towards Fisherman’s Wharf. Get off at the stop closest to Pier 33. From Pier 33, you will find ferries that depart for Alcatraz Island.

    Start at the nearest bus stop in San Mateo and take SamTrans Bus Route 292 towards the Millbrae BART station. Disembark at the Millbrae BART station. From Millbrae, take the BART train towards San Francisco/Daly City and get off at the Embarcadero station. From Embarcadero, you can take the F line streetcar towards Fisherman’s Wharf and get off at Pier 33, where you can catch the ferry to Alcatraz Island.

  • Walking and Public Transit

    If you're close to Central Park in San Mateo, walk to the nearest Caltrain station located at 2nd Ave and B St. Board the Caltrain heading north towards San Francisco.
