Discover more about Isthmus Cove

Isthmus Cove, nestled on Catalina Island, is a haven of tranquility and natural beauty. Often referred to as Two Harbors, this picturesque cove offers a more laid-back and rustic experience compared to the bustling town of Avalon. The isthmus itself is a narrow strip of land separating Isthmus Cove from Catalina Harbor. Historically, Isthmus Cove has been a significant location. It was first mapped in 1602 and was considered as a potential site for Civil War barracks in 1863. Though the military presence was short-lived, the remnants of this era add to the area's rich past. The Isthmus also has ties to Hollywood, serving as a filming location for many movies. Today, Isthmus Cove is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The clear blue waters are perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, and snorkeling. Two Harbors Beach, a narrow sandy stretch on both sides of the pier, provides easy access to the water. Divers and snorkelers can explore the vibrant marine life in what has been voted the “World’s Healthiest Marine Environment”. Hiking and camping are also popular, with numerous trails offering stunning views of the island's diverse flora and fauna. Visitors can explore the area's history by visiting the Union Army barracks. The Banning House Lodge, built in 1909 by Joseph Brent Banning, offers lodging with views of Two Harbors.
