Hotchkiss Park, located in the heart of Santa Monica's Ocean Park neighborhood, provides a tranquil retreat from the nearby beach scene. This 2.1-acre park is cherished by locals and tourists alike for its expansive green lawns, inviting walking paths, and relaxed atmosphere. The park's history adds an intriguing layer to its appeal. It was once the site of the Hotchkiss mansion, built by pioneering woman landowner Nancy Lucas and later owned by Mary Hotchkiss. The mansion mysteriously burned down in 1903 and was never rebuilt. In 1935, Mary Green Mooney Hotchkiss Jauch donated the property to the City of Santa Monica. In 1939, the park officially opened after the removal of an abandoned gas station and dilapidated buildings. Today, visitors can enjoy the park's open space, mature trees, benches, and public art, including the sculpture "Oneness" by Eino Romppanen. The park is open from 6 AM to 11 PM daily, offering ample time for morning joggers and evening strollers. Hotchkiss Park provides a serene environment to relax and recharge, whether basking in the sun or enjoying a shaded spot under the trees.
