Discover more about Tongva Park

Tongva Park, located in the heart of Santa Monica, is a meticulously designed 6.2-acre park that offers visitors a unique blend of natural beauty and urban amenities. Opened in 2013, the park is named in honor of the Tongva people, the original inhabitants of the Los Angeles area, recognizing their deep connection to the land. Built on what was once a flat asphalt parking lot, Tongva Park has been transformed into a vibrant green space with rolling hills, gardens showcasing native California plants, and braided walking paths inspired by the arroyo wash landscape. The park is divided into four main sections: Observation Hill, Discovery Hill, Garden Hill, and Gathering Hill, each offering a distinct experience. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the iconic Santa Monica Pier from Observation Hill. Discovery Hill features a children's play area with a splash pad, while Garden Hill showcases a diverse collection of sustainable plants. Gathering Hill provides a space for picnics and community gatherings, complete with artistic sculptures. Notable features within the park include the kinetic sculpture Weather Field by artist Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle, and the Moreton Bay Fig Tree nicknamed "Morty," along with the "Three Amigos," three Rusty Fig trees each weighing over 100 tons. Tongva Park also offers amenities such as public restrooms, shaded picnic areas, and free Wi-Fi.
