Hiking
From the Giant Forest area, follow the signs towards the Sherman Tree Trail. Begin at the General Sherman Tree, which is the largest tree on Earth. After taking in the view, locate the trailhead which is just a short walk away. The trail is well-marked and leads you through a beautiful grove of giant sequoias. The hike is moderately easy and about 1.2 miles long round trip. Follow the paved path as it winds through the forest, and be sure to take in the sights and sounds of nature along the way.
Shuttle Bus
If you are near the Lodgepole Visitor Center, you can take the Sequoia Shuttle, which operates seasonally. Catch the shuttle to the Giant Forest area. Once you arrive, look for the signs directing you to the Sherman Tree Trail. The trailhead is just a short walk from the shuttle stop. The shuttle runs frequently, so you won’t have to wait long for the next ride.
Walking
If you are staying in the nearby camping areas or lodges within Sequoia National Park, you can walk to the Sherman Tree Trail. Follow the signs directing you towards the Giant Forest. Depending on your starting point, it may take you anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to reach the trailhead. The walk will take you through the stunning landscape of the park, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the natural scenery.
