Car
If you are traveling by car, start on Highway 1, also known as the Pacific Coast Highway. From anywhere in South Coast, head towards Carmel-By-The-Sea. Look for the exit for Carmel Valley Road and take it. Follow Carmel Valley Road until it merges with Ocean Avenue, which will take you into downtown Carmel. Continue on Ocean Avenue until you reach the intersection with San Carlos Street, then turn left. Follow San Carlos Street, which becomes Carmelo Street. You will find Carmel River State Beach at 26478 Carmelo St, which will be on your right. There is limited street parking available, so be prepared to walk a short distance if the beach parking is full.

Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can take the Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) bus service. Check the MST website for the latest schedules and routes. The MST Route 2 travels from Monterey to Carmel. Ask the driver for a stop near Carmel River State Beach. Once you get off, you may need to walk approximately 10-15 minutes to reach the beach. Head towards Ocean Ave, follow it until it merges with Carmelo Street, and continue walking until you reach the beach at 26478 Carmelo St. Be sure to check the bus fare schedule, as there may be costs associated with riding the bus.
