Situated in the heart of downtown at the corner of First and Virginia streets, the building offers a blend of administrative functions and public engagement. The current City Hall occupies a 16-story building that was originally the First National Bank of Nevada. The bank, designed in the International Style by Los Angeles architect Robert Langdon, opened in 1963 and was the tallest building in Reno at the time. The building is open to the public Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays. Reno's City Hall has a rich history. The city's original City Hall was built in 1906 at the corner of First and Center streets. A two-story brick building with a clock tower, it was demolished in 1964 to make way for a parking garage for the First National Bank. A new City Hall was built on the former site of the Southside School, opening in 1965. This building now houses the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum.
