Discover more about Mount San Jacinto State Park

Mount San Jacinto State Park and Wilderness is a 14,000-acre sanctuary boasting dramatic vistas and challenging trails. The park's history stretches back to the early 1900s, with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) developing much of its infrastructure in the 1930s, including trails and picnic areas. The Cahuilla people originally inhabited the mountain valleys, leaving behind traces of their presence in the form of bedrock mortars. The park features over 50 miles of hiking trails for all skill levels, from leisurely strolls to strenuous climbs. Popular trails include the 4.5-mile loop to Round Valley, offering views of an alpine meadow and a historic ranger station, and the challenging Deer Springs Trail to San Jacinto Peak. Permits are required for wilderness entry. Wildlife is abundant, with sightings of mule deer, foxes, mountain lions, and various bird species possible. The park also offers camping at the Idyllwild and Stone Creek campgrounds, as well as primitive wilderness camping with a permit. Keep in mind that winters can bring snow and ice, requiring appropriate gear. Whether you're seeking a challenging hike, a peaceful camping trip, or simply a chance to escape the desert heat, Mount San Jacinto State Park offers a unique and unforgettable experience.
