Getting There

Car
If you are driving, start by entering Yosemite National Park through the Arch Rock Entrance, which is located on Highway 140. Follow the signs to Yosemite Valley. Once in the valley, follow the signs to the Yosemite Village area. From Yosemite Village, take the road toward Mirror Lake and continue on the road until you reach the parking area for the Happy Isles trailhead. The drive typically takes about 30 minutes from the entrance.

Hiking
From the Happy Isles trailhead parking area, you will need to hike the Mist Trail or the John Muir Trail to reach the Sub Dome. If taking the Mist Trail, follow the signs and start ascending the stone steps. This trail can be steep and has some areas with exposure to the elements, so be prepared with water and snacks. After about 2 miles, you will reach the junction for Half Dome. Follow the signs towards Half Dome. The total hike to Sub Dome can take approximately 4-6 hours one way.

Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, use the Yosemite Valley Shuttle System. Board the shuttle at any stop in Yosemite Valley and ride to the Happy Isles stop. The shuttle operates seasonally and is free of charge, but be sure to check the schedule as the frequency may vary throughout the day. Once you arrive at Happy Isles, you will need to hike to reach Sub Dome as described in the hiking section.
