Discover more about Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre (BBC)

Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre (BBC), also known as Angkor Butterfly Center, is an interactive butterfly exhibit located 25 km north of Siem Reap, en route to the Landmine Museum and Banteay Srei Temple. Founded in 2009 by two British butterfly enthusiasts, Ben Hayes and Mike Baltzer, the BBC has the largest butterfly exhibition in Southeast Asia. Inside the netted tropical garden, thousands of free-flying butterflies, all native to Cambodia, create a mesmerizing experience. Visitors can witness the complete life cycle of these delicate creatures, from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly, and observe them feeding and flying up close. The center also displays a variety of moths. November and December are the best months to visit, as the butterfly population is at its peak during this period. Beyond its visual appeal, the BBC is committed to supporting local communities and conservation efforts. The butterflies are sustainably farmed by villagers in the Siem Reap Province, providing them with a livelihood and promoting environmental preservation. Revenue generated from tourist admissions directly supports these poverty alleviation and conservation projects.
