Al-Serkal Mosque: A Beacon of Islamic Architecture in Phnom Penh

The Al-Serkal Mosque is a prominent landmark in Phnom Penh, serving as the capital's main mosque and a significant place of worship for the country's Muslim population. The mosque's story began in 1968 when it was first established as a gift from the Al-Serkal family of the United Arab Emirates. In 2014, a new building replaced the original mosque, also funded by the United Arab Emirates, marking a new chapter in the mosque's history.Al-Serkal Mosque is considered one of the largest mosques in Cambodia, a country with a majority Buddhist population. The two-story structure showcases Ottoman architectural influences, evident in its elegant design. Inside, visitors are greeted by rose and turquoise tiles crafted by Algerian artisans, ceilings adorned with mosaics, and a grand chandelier suspended from the central dome. The mosque is also fully air-conditioned.Beyond its architectural beauty, the Al-Serkal Mosque plays a crucial role in Phnom Penh's Muslim community.
