Discover more about Ta Mok House

Ta Mok House, situated in the Anlong Veng district, provides a haunting glimpse into Cambodia's Khmer Rouge regime. Ta Mok, infamously known as 'The Butcher,' was a senior general in the Khmer Rouge, and his house served as a strategic base and meeting point for top Khmer Rouge leaders, including Pol Pot, until 1997. The house itself is a spartan structure overlooking a lake that Ta Mok created, offering a beautiful yet defensible position. The property features rustic architecture and is decorated with a map of Cambodia and murals of Angkor Wat and Preah Vihear. Visitors can explore the house's interior, where remnants of its past, such as floor tiles and a bunker in the basement, remain. A photographic collection of Khmer Rouge-related images is also on display as part of the Anlong Veng Peace Centre initiative. Today, Ta Mok House functions as a small museum, attracting Cambodian tourists, monks and those interested in Cambodia's history. A visit to Ta Mok House can be combined with a trip to Pol Pot's cremation site to further understand this period of Cambodian history.
