Getting there

Car

If driving from Limbe, take the A2 highway towards Buea. Continue for approximately 30 kilometers. In Buea, follow signs for the A4 road towards Muyuka. After about 20 kilometers, turn onto the N5 road towards Ejagham Lake and continue for 10 kilometers. Be mindful of local traffic and road conditions. Parking near the lake is limited, so arrive early.

Public Transport

From Limbe, take a bus to Buea (approximately 1,000 CFA francs). In Buea, transfer to a bus or shared taxi to Muyuka (approximately 500 CFA francs). From Muyuka, local transport options like motorcycle taxis can take you directly to Ejagham Lake (approximately 1,000 CFA francs). The motorcycle taxi ride is about 30 minutes, depending on road conditions.

Nestled in the Southwest Region of Cameroon, close to the town of Eyumodjock, lies the captivating Ejagham Lake. Unlike the region's many volcanic lakes, Ejagham is believed to have formed as a solution basin from groundwater activity during the last Ice Age. This isolated lake, oval in shape, lacks any inflowing rivers but drains into the Munaya River via a waterfall that prevents most fish from migrating.Ejagham Lake is more than just a scenic location; it's an ecological haven. The lake is home to seven endemic species of cichlid fish, highlighting its importance for biodiversity. Six of these species were only identified in the 2010s. However, the lake's unique ecosystem is under threat from pollution and sedimentation.Visitors to Ejagham Lake can immerse themselves in the tranquility of its surroundings. Birdwatching, hiking on nearby trails, and picnicking by the shore are popular activities. The lake's reflective waters and vibrant sunsets offer stunning photo opportunities.
