Car
To reach Bell Island by car, start from St. John's, the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador. Head west on NL-1 W (Trans-Canada Highway) for about 15 kilometers until you reach the town of Portugal Cove. Follow signs to the ferry terminal, located at 1 Ferry Terminal Road, Portugal Cove. The ferry ride to Bell Island takes approximately 20 minutes, and tickets are purchased at the terminal. As of now, the cost is around CAD 12 for a round trip for a passenger vehicle and driver. Once you arrive at Bell Island, you can explore the island by car or on foot.
Public Transportation
If you're using public transportation, start by taking a bus from St. John's to Portugal Cove. Metrobus Route 4 will take you to the ferry terminal. Once you arrive at the ferry terminal in Portugal Cove, purchase your ticket for the ferry to Bell Island. Similar to the car, the ferry ride lasts about 20 minutes. After disembarking on Bell Island, you can walk around or use local taxi services to explore the area.
