Dorset Lookout Tower: Panoramic Views of Algonquin Highlands
Experience breathtaking 360° views from the Dorset Lookout Tower, a historic fire tower transformed into a scenic destination in the Algonquin Highlands.
The Dorset Lookout Tower offers visitors unparalleled panoramic views of the Algonquin Highlands. Located off Highway 35, just north of Dorset village, the tower has become a must-see destination, especially during the fall when the forests transform into a breathtaking display of color. The original tower, built in 1922, served as a fire lookout until 1961. In 1967, a new tower was constructed on the same site to allow visitors to enjoy the view. Today, the observation deck stands 142 meters above Lake of Bays, providing 360-degree views. Metal stairs lead to the top, and ground-level lookouts are available for those who prefer not to climb the entire tower. The Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower Park offers more than just the tower itself. Visitors can enjoy picnic sites, restrooms, a tourist information kiosk, and a gift shop. A hiking trail, the Dorset Tower Trail, begins behind the Dorset Heritage Museum and winds through a mixed forest to the top of the lookout hill. Leashed dogs are welcome in the park and on the trail but are not allowed on the tower itself.
