    To reach Hecla-Grindstone Provincial Park, start from Winnipeg and drive 165 km north on Highway 8 along the west shore of Lake Winnipeg. After passing Riverton, turn left towards the park entrance. A daily vehicle permit is required and costs $9.50. Annual permits are also available. Be aware that road work is expected to be completed by the end of August 2025, north of Hecla village, which may cause delays.

    Once you're in Hecla Village, the Hecla Village Self-guiding Trail is a 1 km walk that takes you through the restored buildings and historical sites. This trail is easily accessible from the parking area and provides an immersive experience into the island's Icelandic heritage.
