Discover more about Cathedral of the Holy Trinity

The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, a National Historic Site, is located in the heart of Old Québec. Constructed between 1800 and 1804, it holds the distinction of being the first Anglican cathedral built outside the British Isles. King George III commissioned the build to represent the Church of England in what was then a largely Catholic Quebec City. The cathedral's design, attributed to military officers William Robe and William Hall, showcases British Palladian architecture, drawing inspiration from St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London. The building features a rectangular layout, a tripartite nave, and a bell tower that rises above its surroundings. Inside, visitors can admire the classic motif of scrolls adorning the columns and liturgical furniture. The interior also features commemorative monuments, stained glass windows imported from England, and a Royal Pew set apart for the sovereign. The Cathedral houses a collection of religious objects, including a silver communion service gifted by King George III. The bell tower contains eight change-ringing bells, which were installed in 1830 and retuned in London in 2007. These are the oldest change-ringing peal in Canada. Today, the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity welcomes visitors as a place of worship, a historic landmark, and a cultural center.
