Discover more about Churchill & Roosevelt sculptures

The Churchill & Roosevelt Sculptures stand as a testament to the strategic importance of Quebec City during World War II. In 1943 and 1944, the city hosted two significant conferences where British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt discussed and planned crucial strategies that would ultimately lead to the Allied victory. The monument, unveiled in 1998, features busts of the two leaders mounted on pedestals, flanking a central inscription detailing the historical context of their meetings. The Churchill bust is a creation of Oscar Nemon, while the Roosevelt bust is the work of Jo Davidson. The location of the sculptures, near the Saint-Louis Gate and the Citadel, is particularly fitting, given that these landmarks played a role during the wartime conferences. Visitors can reflect on the historical significance of these meetings and appreciate the artistry of the sculptures. The surrounding area, part of Old Québec, a UNESCO World Heritage site, adds to the experience with its charming architecture, quaint shops, cafes, and restaurants. The sculptures provide a perfect backdrop for a leisurely exploration of Quebec City's rich history and culture.
