Discover more about Trafalgar Fountain

Trafalgar Fountain, located in Regina's Wascana Centre, offers a unique glimpse into history. Designed by Sir Charles Barry, the architect behind the British Houses of Parliament, this fountain was originally one of a pair that graced London's Trafalgar Square from 1845 to 1939. When larger fountains were commissioned, the National Art Collection Fund of Britain acquired the originals. Canada accepted the gift of one of the fountains, which now stands as a memorial in Wascana Centre. Its twin can be found in Ottawa. The fountain honors the establishment of the North-West Mounted Police headquarters in Regina in 1882, as well as the officers and members who contributed to the orderly settlement of the western plains. Made of red granite from Aberdeen, Scotland, the fountain features two bowls. The lower bowl has a diameter of 10 feet, while the upper bowl measures 5 feet. The fountain sits within a 34-foot diameter concrete pool, with the pool coping and outside wall constructed from Tyndale stone. Wascana Centre itself is a 930-hectare urban park in the heart of Regina, offering landscaped areas and natural spaces around Wascana Lake. Visitors can enjoy walking and cycling trails, picnic areas, and other attractions. The park hosts various events throughout the year and provides a beautiful setting for relaxation and recreation.
