Car
If you are traveling by car, start by driving from the town of Coyhaique, the capital of the Aysén Region. Head south on Route 7 (Carretera Austral) towards Puerto Río Tranquilo. After approximately 70 kilometers, you will reach the junction at Cerro Castillo. Turn left onto Route 7-CH and continue for about 20 kilometers until you reach Laguna Cerro Castillo. There is a parking area nearby where you can leave your vehicle. Note that the road can be rough in some sections, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.
Public Transportation
To reach Laguna Cerro Castillo using public transportation, take a bus from Coyhaique to Puerto Río Tranquilo. Buses depart regularly from Coyhaique's bus terminal. The journey takes about 3 hours and costs approximately CLP 10,000. Once in Puerto Río Tranquilo, you may need to hire a taxi or find a local shuttle service to take you the remaining distance (about 20 kilometers) to Laguna Cerro Castillo. Be sure to confirm the cost and availability of transportation from Puerto Río Tranquilo before departing.
Hiking
If you are an adventurous traveler, consider hiking to Laguna Cerro Castillo. From the parking area near the trailhead, follow the marked trails that lead to the lake. The hike typically takes 2-3 hours one way and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and landscapes.
