Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the city of Coyhaique, the capital of the Aysén Region. From Coyhaique, head south on Route 7 (Carretera Austral) for approximately 120 kilometers until you reach the town of Puerto Río Tranquilo. This drive will take about 2.5 to 3 hours and will offer stunning views of the Andes mountains and the surrounding landscapes. Once in Puerto Río Tranquilo, continue on Route 7 for another 25 kilometers until you reach the junction for Route 265. Turn right onto Route 265 and follow it for about 20 kilometers until you reach a sign indicating the trailhead for San Quintín Glacier. It's advisable to have a GPS or map handy, as some signage may be limited.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Coyhaique to Puerto Río Tranquilo. Buses run regularly, and the journey takes around 3 hours. Once you arrive in Puerto Río Tranquilo, you will need to arrange for a taxi or a local shuttle to take you to the trailhead for San Quintín Glacier. The taxi fare may vary, but expect to pay around 15,000 to 20,000 Chilean Pesos depending on the distance and negotiation. Make sure to confirm the return trip with your driver, as public transport is not as frequent in this remote area.

• Hiking

  After reaching the trailhead, prepare for a hike to San Quintín Glacier. The trek is moderately challenging and will take approximately 2 to 3 hours depending on your pace.
