Car
From central locations in the Central Valley, head towards Route 5 (Pan-American Highway) southbound. Continue on Route 5 for approximately 40 kilometers. Take the exit towards San Jose de Maipo (Route G-25) and follow the signs for San Jose de Maipo. Drive through the town, then continue on Route G-25 towards the Andes. After about 18 kilometers, you will reach the entrance to the San Francisco Glacier trail. Note that a parking fee may apply, usually around CLP 5,000.
Public Transportation
From central Santiago, take the Metro Line 1 to Los Dominicos station. Transfer to a bus heading to San Jose de Maipo (look for bus numbers like 73 or 74). The bus ride takes about an hour. Once in San Jose de Maipo, you may need to take a taxi or arrange for a local tour company to take you to the glacier. Tour costs can vary, but expect to pay around CLP 15,000 to CLP 25,000 per person for transportation to the glacier.
Taxi or Ride Share
If you prefer a more direct route and convenience, you can use a taxi or a ride-sharing service from San Jose de Maipo. This option allows you to be dropped off directly at the trailhead for the San Francisco Glacier. The ride should take approximately 30 minutes, and the fare will typically range from CLP 10,000 to CLP 20,000 depending on your starting point in San Jose de Maipo.
