Getting There
Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the nearest major city, Puerto Montt. Take Route 5 south towards Pargua, which is approximately 100 km away. From Pargua, take the ferry to Chaitén, which operates daily and costs around CLP 10,000 to CLP 15,000 per person, and an additional fee for the car. The ferry ride takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Chaitén, follow the signs to the town center and then head towards the Mirador Chaitén, which is located approximately 10 km from the town. The road is well-marked and offers beautiful views along the way.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Puerto Montt to Chaitén. There are several bus companies that operate this route, and the journey takes around 12-14 hours. Tickets typically range from CLP 15,000 to CLP 25,000. Once in Chaitén, you can either walk or take a taxi to the Mirador Chaitén. The distance is about 10 km from the town center to the viewpoint, and taxis should be available for hire.
