Car
If you are driving from the city of Puerto Varas, take Route 225 towards Ensenada. Continue on Route 225 until you reach Route 5 (the Pan-American Highway). Head south on Route 5 until you reach the town of Puerto Montt. From Puerto Montt, take Route 225 again towards the island of Chiloé. You will need to take a ferry from Pargua to Chacao (ferry cost is approximately CLP 10,000 for a vehicle). Once you arrive in Chacao, continue on Route 5 south to the town of Quemchi. From Quemchi, you can reach Isla Puduhuapi by boat; you’ll need to arrange a local boat service or check with Patagonia Sailing Experience for options.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Puerto Varas to Puerto Montt. Buses run frequently and the fare is approximately CLP 1,500. From Puerto Montt, take a bus to the town of Quemchi. Note that this may require a transfer at Castro. Once in Quemchi, arrange for a boat to Isla Puduhuapi. Make sure to contact Patagonia Sailing Experience in advance to confirm the boat schedule and availability.
Ferry
From Quemchi, you will need to take a local ferry to Isla Puduhuapi. It is best to confirm the ferry schedule ahead of time, as it can vary based on the season. The cost for the ferry ride is typically around CLP 5,000 per person. Ensure to arrive at the ferry terminal early to secure your spot.
