Car
If you're traveling by car, start your journey from Iquique, the largest city in the Tarapacá Region. Head south on Route 5 Panamericana, and continue for about 100 kilometers. You will pass through the towns of Pica and Pozo Almonte. After Pozo Almonte, look for signs directing you to Quebrada de Tarapacá, located approximately 20 kilometers further east. The road will lead you through some beautiful desert landscapes. Once you reach the entrance, be prepared for a short drive on a dirt road which will take you directly to the Quebrada.
Public Transport
To reach Quebrada de Tarapacá via public transportation, take a bus from Iquique to Pozo Almonte. Buses run frequently and the journey takes about an hour. Once in Pozo Almonte, you can either take a taxi or look for a local minibus that goes to Quebrada de Tarapacá. Make sure to confirm with the driver as this service may not be frequent. The cost for the bus from Iquique to Pozo Almonte is approximately CLP 5,000. The taxi or minibus from Pozo Almonte to Quebrada will cost around CLP 10,000-15,000.
Taxi
For a more direct route, consider hiring a taxi from Iquique to Quebrada de Tarapacá. This option is pricier but it offers convenience, especially if you are traveling in a group. The taxi ride will take around 1.5 to 2 hours, and the cost can range from CLP 50,000 to CLP 70,000. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey to avoid any misunderstandings.
