Discover more about Yendegaia National Park

Yendegaia National Park, located in Tierra del Fuego, Chile, is a testament to the power of conservation and the breathtaking beauty of Patagonia. Established in 2013, the park's creation was a collaborative effort between the Chilean government and the Yendegaia Foundation, a branch of the conservation project led by Douglas and Kristine Tompkins. The foundation donated a significant portion of land, which was combined with state-owned land to form the park. Yendegaia, meaning "deep bay" in the Yagán language, stretches from the Beagle Channel to the Darwin Mountain Range. Its diverse landscapes include mountains, glaciers, lakes, canals, rivers, fjords, extensive grasslands, rugged coasts, and forests. The park is part of the Route of Parks, a 2,800-kilometer scenic route that spans a third of Chile, protecting 11.8 million hectares of wilderness. The park protects the last remaining sub-Antarctic beech forest and provides a vital habitat for endangered species like the culpeo fox, river otter, and ruddy-headed goose. Visitors can also spot guanacos, condors, and various marine life along the coasts. While official trails are still developing, the park offers opportunities for hiking, bird watching, and experiencing the raw beauty of Patagonia.
