Car
If you're driving, start from the city of Ambato, which is a major city in the Andean Region. Take the E35 highway heading south towards Riobamba. The drive will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Once you reach Riobamba, follow the signs to Chimborazo. The road is well-marked; continue on the E40 highway for about 30 kilometers until you reach the entrance to Chimborazo National Park. There is an entrance fee of approximately $2 per person.
Public Transportation
From Riobamba, you can take a bus to the Chimborazo National Park. Head to the Riobamba bus terminal and look for buses that say 'Chimborazo' or 'Parque Nacional Chimborazo.' The bus ride takes about 1 hour and costs around $1.50. Once you arrive at the park entrance, you may need to arrange for a local taxi or shuttle if you want to go deeper into the park. The taxi fare may vary, but expect to pay around $10 to $15 for a round trip to the higher elevations of the park.
Taxi or Rideshare
If you prefer more convenience, consider hiring a taxi or using a rideshare service from Riobamba to Chimborazo. This option is more expensive, costing approximately $30 to $40 one way. Make sure to negotiate the price before starting your journey. The taxi will drop you off at the park entrance, and you can explore the area on foot from there.
Use Chimborazo as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
