Inflexión Memorial Park: A Place of Remembrance

A serene memorial park in Medellín honoring victims of narcoterrorism, offering reflection and hope for the future.

4.7

Inflexión Memorial Park, inaugurated on December 20, 2019, is a poignant tribute to the 46,612 victims of narcoterrorism in Colombia. The park is located in the El Poblado district of Medellín, on the site where the Monaco Building once stood, the former home of Pablo Escobar and his family. The building was demolished on February 22, 2019, marking a symbolic end to a painful era. The park is divided into three sections, each designed to evoke reflection and remembrance. The Path of Heroes features nine granite monoliths inscribed with quotes from public figures who were assassinated during the period of violence. The Plaza of Reflection and Memory, the park's focal point, features a black granite wall with 46,612 holes, each representing a victim of the violence. At night, these holes are illuminated, creating a constellation that connects visitors with the lives lost. The Forest of Resilience and rubble walls incorporate rubble from the original building. Inflexión Memorial Park serves as a place to promote encounter, recover memory, and dignify life. It's a space to recall history, from the perspective of those who died, and make a collective commitment to non-repetition. The park also features a sculpture called Peacebuilders, dedicated to the police who were killed, injured, or went missing. Visitors can wander through lush gardens and along scenic pathways, finding respite from the city.
