The Panteón de Los Próceres, located in the historic center of Popayán, is a monument dedicated to the individuals who played key roles in the founding of the Republic of Colombia. The building itself is an architectural contrast to the colonial constructions in the area, featuring a corinthian style.Originally built in 1928 to house the Assembly of the Department of Cauca, it was repurposed in 1940 to honor the nation's heroes. The building is managed by the Culture and Heritage Division of the University of Cauca. Inside, the pantheon displays names of battles fought around Popayán during the War of Independence. These include Bajo Palacé, La Ladera, Alto Palacé and Calibío.The Panteón offers visitors a serene environment to explore Colombia's rich past. The museum showcases an extensive collection of art and artifacts that highlight the contributions of prominent figures. Exhibitions, including those featuring local artists, provide a platform for contemporary expressions of the region's culture.
