Ukumari Park: A Biodiversity Oasis

Ukumari Park, situated just outside Pereira in the heart of Colombia's Coffee Region, is more than just a zoo; it's a vibrant sanctuary committed to preserving and educating about wildlife. As the largest thematic park in South America, Ukumari aims to protect the region's animal and plant life. The park replaced the former Matecaña City Zoo in Pereira, providing enhanced habitats for its inhabitants. Currently, Ukumari features the Andean Forest and African Savanna habitats, with plans to expand to include the Amazon Rainforest, Caribbean, and Asian ecosystems. Visitors can observe over 200 animal species, including spectacled bears, tapirs, pumas, ocelots, foxes, ostriches, zebras, lions, rhinos, chimpanzees, and the only giraffe in Colombia. The park also boasts a diverse collection of plant species and a display of life-sized dinosaurs.
