Discover more about Glory Hole Park

Glory Hole Park, nestled in the heart of Aspen, Colorado, offers a tranquil escape with a unique history. The park's centerpiece is a serene pond, which belies its dramatic origin as a collapsed silver mine. In 1918, a mining stope caved in, creating a large sinkhole where the Argenturm-Juaniata mine once operated. The collapse swallowed sections of the Colorado Midland Railroad tracks and even two freight ore cars. Over time, the hole was filled with trash and graded over, but it later became a nuisance and was transformed into a park in the late 1960s. Today, Glory Hole Park is a beloved spot for locals and visitors alike. Its scenic beauty and environmentally sound wetlands provide a perfect setting for picnics, meditation, or simply enjoying the surrounding natural beauty. Benches are scattered throughout the park, offering places for quiet contemplation and enjoying the views. The pond, fed by the Roaring Fork River, is a haven for ducks and other wildlife. The park is open from 6 AM to 9 PM daily.
