Discover more about Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park, nestled in Aspen's residential West End, offers a serene escape with historical roots. The park is located on West Bleeker Street, between North Third and North Fourth streets. This gated park provides a safe and inviting space for visitors to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The park's centerpiece is the Henry Webber House, also known as the Webber-Paepcke House, a distinctive brick structure dating back to the 1880s. Henry Webber, a shoe merchant who made his fortune in mining, built the house. The house is one of the few remaining brick homes from Aspen's silver boom era and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of Webber's wife, Harriet. Later, the house was owned by Walter Paepcke, a Chicago businessman who played a key role in Aspen's transformation into a ski resort and cultural center. During his ownership, Paepcke hosted Albert Schweitzer at the house's carriage house, now known as Schweitzer Cottage. The park itself, though small (just over 4,000 square feet), is beautifully landscaped with flower gardens, mature cottonwood trees, and curving walkways. A white gazebo and a sculpture add to the park's aesthetic appeal. Visitors can relax on shaded benches and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
