Wagner Park, situated in the heart of Aspen at 350 E Durant Ave, is a central gathering place and a focal point for community life. The park's history is intertwined with Aspen's evolution, originally the site of the Clarendon Hotel in 1881, which later burned down and was re-established as a popular hotel. The area was acquired by the city in 1948 and has since been known as Wagner Park, named after Mayor Charles Wagner, who served from 1909 to 1927 and was known for his contributions to the town. Today, Wagner Park serves as a versatile space for various activities and events. Its manicured green lawns are ideal for picnics, games, and relaxation, while the playground provides entertainment for children. The park also features an athletic field suitable for rugby, soccer, and other sports. Throughout the year, Wagner Park hosts numerous events, including concerts, festivals, and the Aspen Food & Wine Classic. Wagner Park is easily accessible and is located near the Mill Street Mall and Rubey Park, Aspen's main bus terminal. It is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, although access may be restricted during scheduled events.
