Driving
From Estes Park, drive west on Highway 36 to the Beaver Meadows Entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. After entering the park, turn left onto Bear Lake Road and drive for 9 miles to the Bear Lake Trailhead. Note that a timed entry reservation may be required to access Bear Lake Road between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. from late May through mid-October. Parking at the Bear Lake Trailhead fills up quickly, especially during peak season. Consider using the free park shuttle from the Estes Park Visitor Center or the Park & Ride lot on Bear Lake Road.

During the summer, take the free Hiker Shuttle from the Estes Park Visitor Center to the Bear Lake Park & Ride. From the Park & Ride, transfer to the Bear Lake Shuttle, which runs every 10-15 minutes to the Bear Lake Trailhead. A reservation ticket is required for the Hiker Shuttle and costs $2.00 per reservation. A valid park entrance pass is also required.
