Discover more about Royal Gorge Mansion

Step back in time at the Royal Gorge Mansion, a meticulously maintained Victorian estate in the heart of Cañon City. Constructed between 1882 and 1884 by Lyman Robison, a Scottish immigrant who made his fortune in silver and gold mining, the mansion stands as a testament to the opulence of the late 19th century. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Royal Gorge Mansion is an outstanding example of Second Empire Style architecture, showcasing a Mansard roof, dormer windows, and intricate detailing. Inside, the 6,500-square-foot mansion boasts 14-foot ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and elaborate moldings, all reflecting a rich French influence and classic Victorian design. The mansion features four beautifully appointed guest suites, spacious parlors, a formal dining room, a gourmet kitchen, and a sunroom, all surrounding a custom walnut staircase. The property also holds a few secrets, including an iron-gated wine cellar and a 1920s speakeasy-style bar. The Royal Gorge Mansion is set on four acres of manicured grounds, complete with a custom iron fence adorned with gold-foiled finial accents, a spectacular iron-cast fountain modeled after one in New York City, and a classic gazebo. Today, the mansion hosts afternoon tea services, special events, and offers lodging. It's also conveniently located near the Royal Gorge Route Railroad and the Arkansas Riverwalk trail.
