This non-profit museum, founded in 2010, is the permanent home of the Anschutz Collection, a formerly private collection amassed over 50 years by businessman Philip Anschutz. The museum's collection spans nearly two centuries, showcasing the evolution of Western art from early expeditionary paintings to modern masterpieces. Visitors can explore works from renowned artists, representing various schools and movements, including the Hudson River School, Rocky Mountain School, and American Regionalism. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, and drawings, providing a comprehensive look at the diverse artistic interpretations of the American West. The museum is housed in the historic Navarre Building, which has a colorful past. Originally opened in 1880 as a school for women, it later became a brothel with a secret tunnel to the nearby Brown Palace Hotel. In the early 1900s, it was transformed into a dining club before being purchased by art collector William Foxley in 1983. The Anschutz Corporation took over in 1997, renovating the building to its Victorian glory and opening it to the public in 2010.
