The Center for Colorado Women's History, located in the heart of Denver, resides within a spacious, historic home constructed in 1883. Originally the Byers-Evans House, it was home to William Byers, publisher of the Rocky Mountain News, and later the family of William Gray Evans, an officer of the Denver Tramway Company. The house itself is an example of Italianate design, featuring plum-colored brick, arched stonework, ornate chimneys, and decorative brickwork. Inside, guests are surrounded by domestic objects and art from a bygone era, offering a glimpse into the lives of women during that time. The museum's exhibits, tours, and programs focus on the past, present, and future achievements of Colorado women. Visitors can explore exhibits independently or take a docent-led tour to learn about the impact of women on Colorado history. The Center's mission is to generate new knowledge and understanding of women's roles in history, reflect the diverse audiences of Colorado, and share stories that represent the lives and work of all women in Colorado's past and present. The museum also hosts special events and programs throughout the year, inspired by the diverse communities in Denver. Currently on exhibit is "Ms. Destiny," which highlights the stories of seven unique and resilient Colorado women who took fate into their own hands, overcame barriers, and defined their realities.
