Discover more about My Brother's Bar

My Brother's Bar, located in an unmarked brick building at 2376 15th St, Denver, is a true Denver landmark. It stands as the city's oldest bar, pouring drinks since 1873. Originally named Highland House, it has operated under several names, including Whitey's Restaurant and Paul's Place, before becoming My Brother's Bar in 1970. In the 1970s, brothers Jim and Angelo Karagas purchased Whitey's Restaurant and transformed it into My Brother's Bar. The bar's name came from a joke between the brothers, who would tell debt collectors to bill the other. The Karagas family sold the bar in 2017 to a long-time friend, who has continued the traditions that make the bar special. My Brother's Bar offers a unique atmosphere, devoid of modern distractions like TVs, instead favoring classical music and conversation. It was a popular haunt for Beat Generation writers like Neal Cassady and Jack Kerouac. A framed copy of a letter from Cassady, referencing an unpaid tab, can be found near the restrooms. The bar is known for its burgers, craft beers, and refusal to serve Coors or Budweiser.
