    The D&SNG Museum is located at 479 Main Ave in downtown Durango. From most downtown locations, the museum is easily accessible on foot. Walking north or south along Main Avenue will bring you to the Durango Train Depot, where the museum is located. Allow a few minutes to walk from the south end of downtown, or a bit longer from the north end. No costs are associated with walking.

    Public Transport

    Durango Transit offers bus and trolley services throughout the city. The Durango Trolley runs along Main Avenue and stops near the Durango Depot. Check the Durango Transit website for schedules and routes. As of August 2024, the Durango Trolley and buses are free to ride. Otherwise, a typical fare is around $1.

    Driving

    The D&SNG Museum is located at 479 Main Ave, next to the Durango Train Depot. From Highway 160, head north on Main Avenue into downtown Durango. Parking is available in the D&SNG parking lot at 209 W College Drive, near the corner of U.S. Hwy 550 and College Drive. Parking fees are $10 for cars, trucks, and motorcycles, and $20 for RVs, buses, and trailers. Metered street parking is also available, but is limited, and costs 1 cent per minute. There is an unloading zone on Main Avenue near the Depot for dropping off passengers.

The museum is located in the Durango roundhouse. Founded in 1880 by the Denver & Rio Grande Railway, Durango owes its existence to the railroad. The D&SNG Museum, established in 1998, showcases the rich history of railroading through exhibits, artifacts, and interactive displays. Visitors can explore vintage locomotives, railroad cars, and other equipment dating back to the 1880s. The museum also features a model railroad depicting the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad in the 1950s. The D&SNG played a crucial role in transporting silver and gold ore from the San Juan Mountains. Today, the D&SNG continues to operate as a heritage railway, offering scenic train rides through the Animas River Valley. The museum is open daily during the summer and on select dates during the winter. Admission is free.
