Discover more about Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park

Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, recognized as America's only mountaintop theme park, sits high above Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The park's history began with the discovery of the Fairy Caves in the late 1800s. Charles W. Darrow opened the caves to the public in 1895, offering tours via horseback and walking paths. Electric lights were installed in 1897, making it one of the first caves to have them. After being closed for many years, Steve and Jeanne Beckley reopened the caves in 1999, later adding the Iron Mountain Tramway (now the Glenwood Gondola) in 2003 to improve access. To entertain guests waiting for cave tours, the Beckleys expanded the park to include thrill rides, such as the Alpine Coaster, which was the first of its kind in North America. Today, the park features a variety of attractions, including the Defiance roller coaster, cave tours, and the Glenwood Gondola. Visitors can explore the stunning underground landscape on guided cave tours, discovering unique formations like stalactites and stalagmites. Above ground, the park boasts thrilling rides with views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains. In 2023, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, along with Iron Mountain Hot Springs, was named a National Natural Landmark.
