Getting There

  • Driving

    Forest Canyon Overlook is located along Trail Ridge Road (US-34) in Rocky Mountain National Park. From Estes Park, enter the park through the Beaver Meadows Entrance. A timed entry permit may be required to enter the park. Follow Trail Ridge Road for approximately 16.8 miles to the overlook. Parking is free, but the lot is relatively small and can fill quickly during peak season. Park entrance fees are $30 per vehicle for a one-day pass or $35 for a seven-day pass. A timed entry permit, if required, costs an additional $2 per vehicle. Trail Ridge Road is typically closed from mid-October to Memorial Day due to snow.

  • Public Transport

    While there is a free shuttle system within the Bear Lake Road Corridor in Rocky Mountain National Park, there is no shuttle service available to Trail Ridge Road or Forest Canyon Overlook. To reach Trail Ridge Road using public transport, take the Hiker Shuttle from the Estes Park Visitor Center to the Park & Ride transit hub. From there, you will need to use a private vehicle to access Trail Ridge Road. The Hiker Shuttle requires a reservation, which costs $2 and can be made on Recreation.gov. A park pass is also required. A one-day individual pass costs $15, or a one-day vehicle pass costs $30. Bear in mind that this only gets you to a point from which you still need to drive to the Overlook. There are commercial shuttle tours in the Estes Park area that may offer transportation to Trail Ridge Road, check with the Estes Park Visitor Center for information.
